Art Director, The Sill

The Sill, a direct-to-consumer destination for plant shopping, is looking for a full-time Art Director.


A few things interested candidates should know before we get into details:  

  • In this role, you will lead a team in developing compelling creative that brings The Sill’s brand essence to life. You will be responsible for concepting and executing creative across all digital (web, social media, email, video, programmatic) and physical mediums (packaging, store signage, promotional materials. and out-of-home advertising).

  • This full-time, remote role will report to the Director of Brand Marketing. Residing in NY is a huge plus.

  • You must be comfortable with traveling as 10% travel is required for photo and video shoots. 

  • Because this is a ​​a director-level role, a project is required for hiring. We’ve confirmed that none of the submissions will be used after they're reviewed. 

  • In an effort to support their success at The Sill, the selected candidate will be paired with a tenured employee to have check-ins during their onboarding process.


Job Description:

 In this role, you will lead a team in developing compelling creative that brings The Sill’s brand essence to life. You will be responsible for concepting and executing creative collateral across all digital (web, social media, email, video, programmatic) and physical mediums (packaging, store signage, promotional materials. and out-of-home advertising). Your ability to bring business objectives to life will result in a best-in-class experience for our customers—from their first interaction with The Sill to when they unbox their products.

You’ll be bringing The Sill’s brand to life through by developing a creative vision for evergreen and seasonal brand campaigns that are relevant and fresh. Candidates should also be able to nurture partnerships by partnering with The Sill’s in-house brand, ecommerce, retail and procurement, and lifecycle marketing teams to provide and conceptualize unique, fresh, and fun experiences and content.

The person selected for this role should be comfortable managing a team and their workflow, providing insight and advice to team members, and communicating with external and operational partners. The ideal person for this role should also be comfortable leading the art direction, planning, and execution of all campaign shoots, managing the creative team budget, establishing and improving department processes through collaboration tools and tech systems (Asana, Figma, Dropbox).


Requirements:

  • 7+ years of professional design experience including managing a team budget as well as leading a creative team.

  • Experience planning and executing brand and stories through a range of mediums

  • Familiarity with user experience (UX) design and a basic understanding of front end development.

  • A demonstrated ability to translate consumer insights and business objectives into effective creative strategies, and effectively communicate your creative vision to multiple stakeholders.

  • A thorough understanding of typography and working with typesetting in different formats. 

  • Ability to set ambitious goals but adept at finding ways to deliver on them in a cost-effective manner and regularly reassess priorities to meet business needs.
